What’s going to be new in the New Year for YOU?
Did you make any New Year’s Resolutions as we entered into 2019? If so, are they different from last years? Were you able to keep the ones you made last year for the entire 2018?
Statistics show that about 68% of people make New Year’s Resolutions and by February about 80% of them have failed to keep them by February! Only about 10% actually achieve their New Year’s Resolutions!
Why do most people break them or stop striving to achieve them? One of the biggest reasons is they create a whole list!!! Things like lose weight, exercise more, spend less, save more, get organized, learn something new, drink less and the list goes on and on.
All the newest neuroscience shows that to create a lasting new habit, it is best to just make one change at a time. You really can’t change everything at once and expect it to stick.
Creating changes in our lives is not a sprint but a marathon – slow and steady will win the race. Real change takes time. According to newest research it takes about 66 days to create a new habit – so we shouldn’t expect to change everything over night!
Another major reason many people do not stick to their New Year’s Resolutions is because they did not have a real WHY?
What does it mean to have a real WHY? In order to create a MEANINGFUL goal, you must have a deep problem it will solve. What is the deep inner transformation you want? How will you feel when…. Or what will your life be like when……. This cannot be just superficial like I’ll be happy – must be specific.
What will you be able to do? Will you be able to get down on the floor easier to play with your kids or grandkids? Will you help you prevent more health issues? Will it ignite your self-confidence?
Once you have determined your inner WHY, then you must believe to achieve! This can often be difficult – especially when it comes to health and weight loss.
I find that most of the women I coach have dieted more than once. They have gone on a diet, made the many changes the diet required, lost weight but once they reached their goal or came off the diet, the weight started to return. Many have done the same diet over and over expecting different results.
The good news is “Diets Don’t Work & it’s NOT the Dieter’s Fault”! It is the Diet’s Fault – even though the diet industry tries to make you feel it’s your fault! I was live on the Forget Diets Forever Facebook page, Jan 3, 2019 @ 4:00 PM EST. Click HERE to watch the replay.
If you did make a list of New Year’s Resolutions – just pick one thing to start and make sure you have your deep transforming WHY. Please do NOT start a whole long list – one or two things will produce a better start.
